Reading Questions for 9/30

For Wednesday, Read the Objections and Replies to Descartes’ Meditations¬†(pp. 69 -92). Think about the following questions, and come prepared to ask some questions of your own:

  1. How does Descartes’ discussion of the ‘geometrical style of writing’ relate to your own experience of reading the text? What do you think about the distinction he is making concerning different kinds of readers? Does the geometrical arrangement of his argument provided there help you ‘grasp’ what he is up to any better than the presentation he gives in the text?
  2. What do you take from the discussion concerning the nature of the human mind? Are the objections good ones? What about Descartes’ replies?
  3. What do you take from the discussion concerning God? Are the objections good ones? What about Descartes’ replies?
